Things with BSK started off almost on top of the wave, surfing up a couple of reeeeeeally interesting projects to install LED displays at Berlin, Cologne and London upcoming stores. Rather than the typical boring giant square hanging on a wall, they would go for something quite different. Lightsound + Castel Veciana project quickly developed into deconstructing the whole thing into separate bars and squares layouts…
Those days I was working on location as a video technician for Desigual and Pepe Jeans booths at Bread&Butter Berlin back in 2012, having some lazy fun days at this extraordinary fashion convention, sharing good moments with the rest of the Lightsound team there…
And then I got the call: project presentation to Inditex was ready to go, but everything was still on blueprints and nobody had the slightest idea of how these ideas would blend into the actual architecture of each store…
So had to put my beer aside, took my laptop and pulled some express Maya 3D simulations featuring some rough sound synced visuals on modelled displays.
They loved the simulation, project was accepted, displays were installed.
However, the best was… visual contents required. Inditex wanted to have sound reactive visuals all the time, reacting to piped music at each store, making displays come trully alive…
First basic idea was to have a giant EQ display bouncing up and down at Berlin, as bars layout for this display would fit perfectly. However, there was so much that could be done with that LED display…
No conventional video software fit this live sound reactive visuals concept. MADRIX then proved to be the perfect tool for this purpose, as it generates geometry on the fly reacting to sound feed. The initial idea was to come up with a solid set of good looking patterns and have them ready to go before the store openning… But I was also helping installing LED pannels those days, and time ran against me. One more time.
So had to program and VJ at the openning, all at the same time… Result was a jaw-dropping set of visuals I´m really proud of. Lots of color, lots of lines reacting to DJ set that day, some campaign videos blending in here and there…
Can’t remember exactly how many slots I managed to program that day. I do remember party was in the air that day, you know…
Fun times indeed.
Shot some over my iPhone 3G, but it takes the entire Vatican restoration team to pull something decent out of it… Leave you with some pictures instead.
