Had already told you before, people: BSK knows how to do it when it comes to collections films. This time, they wanted something special for their upcoming openning in Torino, new store. Main footage handed to us included the entire shooting sessions for a Black&White story that I’ve never fully understood (nor BSK never explained to me), between two guys and a girl jamming as a mod power trio in some nice winter house, snow falling from the outside, models walking backwards… Some scenes would perfectly chain together making sense, but there was never a clear beginning or end to the story…
There was some extra footage from classic studio shooting for the same collection, plus some denim studio stuff that wouldn’t quite get along with main footage, and some clips from previous collections…
BSK idea was to mash it all up together, very fast rythm, almost flash editing… I would have used only power trio stuff, as it was good enough to pull a great campaign clip on its own… Very elegant, very tasty. But sometimes elegance has to be sacrificed in the name of sales…
Anyway, began dropping best clips onto timeline. Final Cut Pro X proved to be just the right software for this project: vast majority of footage was 4K, some RED stuff, and I needed a very fast tool to quickly preview tons of footage and edit right away without having to render timeline on every change I made.
Selected The Knives “Last Day of Magic” great track and continued editing, tightly nailing every shot In point to the beat. Some audio editing was also required, just to shorten soundtrack down to slightly over one minute long.
In the end, came up with a very solid final clip. Postproduction would only require some channels levels tweaking, nothing too serious.
So… after putting a fine synced-to-the-Knives piece together, Bershka told us to change audio track… To be fair, I knew it all along. But as BSK themselves wouldn’t know what audio track to use until final cut, in the meantime needed some reference to edit something coherently appealing. Besides, this clip was supposed to be reproduced mute at stores. Such a shame… Though visually correct, final outcome to BSK YouTube channel is this:
