“THE CREATIVE PROCESVVS”

Ain’t this piece title creative itself, or what?

It all began with a friend who needed a clip to show potential clients how creative the company he works for is. They just don´t have a proper think tank in house and needed this for a serious business proposal.
His idea was to explain the creative process… creatively. And I could´t use any of my portfolio works: I would have to build it up from scratch.
The piece should have a clear script, and also feature some neat motion graphics. Besides those masterliness, I could do whatever I considered fit to the task.

Many ideas crossed my mind, some of them a little pyrotechnic… But it in the end put some limits and realized had some other limitations: budget was ZERO to shoot anything, faces or people would diminish the universal feeling I intended to put on this piece, and no voice should be explaining anything on screen. Images should tell the story.

So my partner gave me some insight on lateral thinking philosophy, and handed me some material she was working on currently. Tripped into the TIC-TAC-TOE match you see at the end of the clip. Thought it was creative and off bounds. Simple and very visual. Liked it a lot, and developed the rest of the clip based on that idea.

Lookdev for this job was to be very clean, few elements to explain it all. A blank sheet of paper is kind of a classic when you start anything, creative or not. So started from there… and let it fly.

Set the whole thing up just by using Videocopilot 3DElement, on After Effects. Great tool for a fast and fairly good looking 3D job on a compositing software as AE. It´s not Maya + Arnold, but it´s much faster and flexible when it comes to changes. Geo instancing is also powerful, but I needed some extra control on most of balls clouds, so I used some Trapcode TAO as well. This is a new Trapcode plugin which instances geo along paths, great for crazy motion graphics.

In the end, edited the whole thing using Final Cut Pro X and gave a quick color correction back over AE.

Final piece is one I´m proud of. It´s sweet, it´s simple, it´s nice.

LET IT FLY.
